Minutes of March 12, 2013 Board Meeting

Board Members Present: Howie Hawkins, Naqia Kent, Yaschia Kinsey
Board Members Absent: Baye Muhammad, Shirley Rowser

Next board meeting: 6:00 pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2013

All decisions were made by consensus unless otherwise noted.

1. Minutes Approved

The board minutes for February 12 and 26 were approved.

2. Website

Yaschia Kinsey met with the three SU IT students on March 10 about connecting the mobile app to the website and launching the website. The will add the membership application and a online membership certificate payment option. The students will set the website up so authorized co-op memberrs can edit and add to the website.

3. General Manager

The board was not sure whether the payment for the recruiter for a general manager would come out of the co-ops operating budget or the project development funds of the Southside Community Coalition. The board also wondered whether it should hear another proposal from another recruiter before making a decision. The board agreed it needs to move quickly on the general manager recruitment process.

4. Membership Recruitment

The co-op needs 50 members by April 30 to meet the requirements of a Gifford Foundation grant. The co-op has 30 members as of March 12, 2013. The board agreed that the brochure and progress report need to be updated to help with membershp recruitment. Howie Hawkins volunteered to work on drafts of these materials.

5. Marketing and Membership Recruitment

Naqia Kent will set up a monthly film series using the “Weight of a Nation” film on health and food issues to help with marketing and membership recruitment.

6. Membership Certificate Scholarships and Reuseable Bags from County Health Department

Kathy Mogle of the county Health Department has received a grant to provide the co-op with 10 membership certificate scholarships and 100 reusable bags with the co-op logo to be used for marketing. The board deferred to the next meeting setting up criteria for offering membership certificate scholarships and how to use the reusable bags.
